Arneg: Integration of the Italian Information System on AS400 with the Brazilian one on Informix

The company Arneg Spa needed to solve a complex problem of data integration and coexistence of two different ERP systems, residing on different platforms and geographically distant.

 

The problem

Specifically, the needs expressed by the customer were three:

  • Synchronize, permanently, bidirectionally and in real time, the master data information between the accounting part of the Brazilian Software (Informix database) and the management part of the group (on AS/400 platform with IBM DB2 database), all without changes to  the source ERP and a slow intercontinental connection.
  • Manage in real time a complete testing environment, easy to configurate and replicable.
  • Manage the update processes of data without specific know-how about Informix, as the corporate IT culture of Arneg is based on other database types.

 

The solution: DuploDB

The customer chose the DuploDB software because its characteristics answered to all the needs expressed during the analysis of the problem. In particular:

  • Reliability and know-how of the partner. Arket is a company that for almost twenty years deals with integration projects between information systems, with numerous successful projects implemented, in particular with the Duplo software solution that enables alignment of data in real time.
  • Duplo is able to synchronize data residing on different databases, capture the changes that occur in the tables of the source database and apply them to the target system.
  • The temporary unavailability of the line of communication and/or the temporary unavailability of the database for maintenance operations are guaranteed, thanks to the particular characteristics of the product, that is able to manage the capture of the data also in off-line mode, to restore the exact sequence when the line and/or the database returns available.
  • Ability to manage time zones automatically and without the need for constant monitoring by the IT staff, including any autonomous restart through a self-management system of the anomalies, all complemented by an efficient system of monitoring and event tracking.

 

The advantages of the solution

While maintaining the entire structure of the information system and without any intervention on applications, Arneg has integrated the Brazilian accounting system on Informix with  the Italian ERP system on IBM DB2.

Through the use of Duplo, the project of integration between the two systems lasted a few days, necessary for the planning of interventions, the installation and configuration of the product.

The acquisition by the Arneg staff of control elements of the process via the Duplo console, took a few hours of training and has allowed to build a network of alerts about possible inefficiencies related to the communication lines, the unavailability of the database for maintenance or backup or other problems resulting from the software update of the two applications.
